Ah Ireland…..the emerald isle. Since I was a wee lad I’ve heard story upon story about Ireland and the Irish people. I’ll bet that’s true for many of you also. Now I get a chance to visit and discover for myself……are there Leprechauns, Banshees, pots o’ gold...
So please join me. I can’t promise that you’ll meet any mythical creatures or find any gold but I can promise there will be stories about a warm and friendly culture and beautiful scenery. There will even be a few Irish toasts thrown in.
This is the third Rick Steves tour for my wife Robin & I. Our first was Best of Europe in 21 days to celebrate our 25th anniversary and our previous trip was Village Italy. This trip was planned to celebrate our 30th anniversary.
When I was looking at my pictures I realized that Ireland looked like an emerald placed carefully between sea and sky. I knew I had the title of my site.
This site is laid out as a daily journal which can be accessed from the menu on the left. To navigate between days, in addition to the journal menu there are next day / previous day options on the left and at the bottom of each journal page.
If you'd rather just look at pictures there is also a Photo Gallery of my favorite shots. I've also included an Itinerary Map which shows our route and what we saw along the way. This can be zoomed in and panned just like other Google Maps. One other option is a page with a little info about our Group.
And if all of this is just too much, at least read my conclusions about the trip on Day 14. I think they might be informative if you are considering doing this tour.
I tried and tried to decide on a background picture but everywhere you look in Ireland is a beautiful background picture so I'm passing the buck to you. The left menu includes an option called Background Themes. These can also be brought up by clicking on the little green "Themes" button at the top right. I've included my eight favorites so try them all and use the one you like best.
Now, to quote an old Irish proverb, "it's a long road that has no turning" so let's turn the corner and be on our way!
